How to Prepare for a Mediumship Reading With a Loved One

What to do before your appointment, what to bring, and why you do not need to give Spirit a detailed itinerary.
To prepare for a mediumship reading, review your appointment details, choose a quiet place, write down a few questions, and leave yourself time afterward. You do not need to share your loved one's whole story in advance or reach a special emotional state. Preparation is about your comfort, not about making a connection happen.
So, you have booked your reading. Now what? Do you meditate for three days? Light seventeen candles? Create a spreadsheet of deceased relatives, complete with preferred arrival times?
Please do not turn this into another project to manage. A candle is lovely. A spiritual command center is not required.
Start with your appointment details
Read your confirmation before the day of the session. Check the date, time zone, session length, and whether the appointment is online or in person. Review the policies and instructions for the particular service you booked.
For an online reading, have the meeting link ready and test your device, sound, and internet connection. A little practical preparation leaves you with one less thing to think about when emotions are already close to the surface.
Do not drive during your reading. Choose a place where you can give the conversation your attention and have privacy if you become emotional.
You can hope to hear from someone without scripting the session
Maybe you want to hear from your mother. Maybe you miss your partner. Maybe there is someone whose passing left questions you still carry. You do not have to pretend those hopes are not there.
I encourage you to hold those hopes gently. I cannot guarantee which loved one will communicate, what details will emerge, or whether a specific question will be answered.
That is a limit of the service, not a test of your openness. You do not need to be unusually positive or spiritually advanced. Feeling sad, nervous, or skeptical does not make you a bad client.
Avoid sending a detailed history before your mediumship reading
For my mediumship sessions with loved ones in spirit, I prefer not to receive extensive background information before we begin. You do not need to send a biography, family tree, or a long explanation of every detail you hope I will mention.
As an evidential medium, I aim to bring forward recognizable information rather than repeat what you have already told me. You can then assess what is accurate, what is uncertain, and what does not fit.
Follow the instructions for the service you actually booked. An animal communication appointment, for example, may have different preparation requirements from a mediumship reading with a human loved one.
What questions can you bring to a mediumship reading?
Write down the questions you do not want to forget. Keep them for yourself initially, and ask when there is an opportunity during the session. You might want to explore a meaningful memory, the relationship you shared, or something you never had the chance to say.
You can also ask practical questions about the process, such as how I receive impressions and how I would like you to respond. Those are entirely reasonable questions, not a challenge to anyone's spiritual credentials.
Bring a short list rather than an expectation that every question must be answered. A reading is not a guaranteed interview with a particular person, and you remain responsible for decisions in your own life.
Do you need a photograph or a personal object?
You do not need to send photographs or objects for my standard mediumship readings unless your booking instructions specifically request them. Keeping a meaningful item nearby for your own comfort is a personal choice, not a requirement for the session.
Similarly, meditation is optional. Taking a few quiet moments may help you settle, but you do not need to empty your mind perfectly. Most of us have minds that behave like a browser with far too many tabs open.
Be honest during the reading
Yes, no, and I'm not sure are all useful responses. If something is wrong, tell me. If you do not recognize a detail, you do not need to invent an explanation for it.
Discernment belongs in a spiritual experience. You can stay curious while keeping your own judgment. A respectful reading should not require you to surrender either.
You can also let me know when you need clarification or when a topic feels too personal. Preparation includes remembering that you have a voice in the room.
What to have ready on the day
Your confirmation, meeting link or location details, and a charged device if the session is online.
Water, tissues, and a notebook for your own questions and reflections.
A private space with fewer interruptions and some breathing room afterward.
Check the recording policy before recording any session. Do not assume a recording will be provided, and avoid promising yourself that you will remember every detail while emotions are running high.
Give yourself room after the appointment
Leave a little space to reflect rather than immediately evaluating whether you had the correct reaction. You might feel comforted, thoughtful, emotional, uncertain, or a mixture.
Write down both the recognizable details and anything that did not fit. You do not have to turn every statement into a message, and you do not need to book another session simply because one question remains unanswered.
How do you know whether you are ready?
You do not owe anyone a timetable for this decision. A reading should be a choice you feel free to make, not an urgent purchase you believe is necessary to keep a loved one close.
If the possibility of an unclear reading feels unbearable right now, it is reasonable to wait. A mediumship session is not a substitute for personal or professional grief support.
You do not need to prepare perfectly
My final advice is simple: make yourself comfortable, bring your honest questions, and give yourself permission to be human. You do not need special crystals, a spotless home, or a personality transplant into someone who never worries.
